Designing for Natural Flow and Functionality

One of the defining features of this project is its intentional spatial flow. From the moment patients enter the clinic, the layout naturally guides them through the space from reception and waiting, through consultation areas, and back again, without confusion or congestion.

Welcoming Reception & Waiting Area

The open waiting area was designed to feel spacious and comfortable, incorporating:

• Multiple powerpoints for convenient mobile device charging
• A welcoming reception desk with seating for three reception staff
• Batten screen detailing to create subtle separation and privacy between reception and waiting areas

The batten screens serve both aesthetic and functional purposes, softening the space visually while maintaining openness and ensuring patient discretion at the front desk.

Consultation Rooms with Light & Comfort in Mind

To maximise natural light, all GP consultation rooms were positioned along the external perimeter of the building. This approach provides:

• Enhanced patient comfort
• Improved practitioner wellbeing
• A brighter, more inviting clinical environment

Generously sized consultation rooms ensure flexibility for various medical services while maintaining compliance with healthcare design standards.

The Central Clinical Hub: Efficiency at the Core

At the heart of the clinic lies the operational hub, a private nurses’ station and treatment room strategically located in the centre of the facility.

This hub was designed to:

• Allow efficient oversight of clinic operations
• Provide multiple access points for staff from different areas of the clinic
• Include lockable doors for privacy and security
• Accommodate extensive cabinetry and integrated wash basins for clinical efficiency

By centralising the nurses’ and treatment areas, the design enhances staff collaboration and maintains patient confidentiality.

Importantly, a dedicated private isolation space was incorporated to safely manage patients when required, a crucial feature in modern healthcare environments.

Accessibility & Compliance

Accessibility was a key priority throughout the project. The clinic includes:

• Multiple toilet facilities
• DDA-compliant toilets to ensure accessibility for all patients

The layout ensures clear circulation paths, easy navigation, and compliance with healthcare building standards.
